Knock Down Shipyard

The Knock Down Shipyard is a touch screen installation displayed in two museums and a traveling exhibition, using 3D models and 2D images to bring large-scale historic artifacts to life.  The interactive display presents stories and historical information about featured nautical vessels, allowing museum visitors to explore the interior and exterior of several different ships.

Built initially for an exhibition about the tragic sinking of the SS Princess Sophia developed by the Maritime Museum of British Columbia, the product was built specifically to be adapted for other uses, and was quickly repurposed at Vancouver Maritime Museum to showcase arctic exploration vessel RCMP St. Roch.

The first two implementations were specific to single historic vessels, but the product can feature more than one subject at a time, and has also been developed to accommodate a variety of subject matter beyond ships, including buildings on land.
